McFarland, Ernest W. (William)

(1894–1984) judge, U.S. senator, governor; born near Earlsboro, Okla. A state superior court judge, he was elected to the U.S. Senate (Dem., Calif.; 1941–53), where he served as majority leader (1951–53). He later served as governor of Arizona (1955–59).
