memory storageThe flash memory found in a smartphone, tablet or camera and increasingly in laptop and desktop computers. The term memory storage is occasionally used to accentuate "storage" because memory is commonly used as a synonym for storage.
For decades prior to flash memory, the words "memory" and "disk" were more than adequate to describe these primary components; however, "RAM" and "storage" are the terms that should be used today (see storage vs. memory). See flash memory, memory, SSD, magnetic disk and storage.
Memory Storage Is a Human Brain Function
The term "memory storage" is actually more biology than technology. It describes the length of time something is retained in the human mind. It refers to sensory memory (fraction of a second), short-term memory (minutes) and long-term memory (years).
