Middleton, Troy Houston

(1889–1976) soldier, educator; born in Mississippi. He left the army in the 1930s to serve as a senior administrator at Louisiana State University (LSU). Recalled in 1942, he commanded an infantry division in combat in Sicily and Italy, and led a corps in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany from 1944 to 1945. He returned as president of LSU from 1951 to 1962.
