Mirziyoyev, Shavkat Miromonovich,

1957–, UZbek political leader, president of Uzbekistan (2016–). A graduate of the Tashkent Institute of Engineers, he taught there before becoming a deputy of the supreme council (1990). He he later served as governor of Jizzakh region (1996–2001) and of Samarkand region (2001–3), then as prime minister of Uzbekistan (2003–16). , 1938–2016, Soviet and Uzbekistani political leader, president of Uzbekistan (1991–2016). He joined the Soviet Communist party in 1964, rose steadily, and became head of the Uzbek SSR party in 1989.
