Motion Pictures, Scientific

 

a field of cinematography that is developing in four independent directions: popular-science, instructional, research, and industrial motion pictures. Each category has its own subject and function and uses specific means of expression. All countries that have a well-developed film industry have scientific motion pictures. The International Scientific Film Association, of which the USSR is a member, was established in 1947.
