Munk, Walter H. (Heinrich)

(1917–  ) oceanographer; born in Vienna, Austria. He came to the U.S.A. in 1932, and became a professor of geophysics at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1947). He made major contributions to research on ocean acoustics, tides, and the earth's rotation.
