are members of the kingdom Protozoa class Eumycetozoa; they are fungus-like organisms present in most terrestrial ecosystems.
This collection was previously used to prepare the Checklist of Myxomycetes
from Mississippi in 1968.
However, information on the myxomycetes
of Tennessee is relatively scarce (Cooley, 1934; Hageistein, 1940; Linder, 1941; Welden, 1951; Parr, 1979; Stephenson et al.
Lycid larvae are reported to be predacious by some authors (Miller 1988; Triplehorn & Johnson 2005) while other authors (Lawrence 1991; Marshall 2006; McCabe & Johnson 1979; Withycombe 1926) report that they feed on myxomycetes
, fungi, or fermenting plant juices.
EFFECT OF BARK pH ON THE OCCURRENCE AND ABUNDANCE OF TREE CANOPY MYXOMYCETES
IN THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK.
The goal of this study was to document all reported collections of myxomycetes
(slime molds) from Athens County, OH (USA).
This research project involved undergraduate, graduate students, volunteers, park interns and a multidisciplinary team of experts in the collection and identification of Myxomycetes
, macrofungi, lichens, mosses, liverworts, ferns, tardigrades, and molluscs from the tree canopy.
Twenty-four Ascomycetes (5 orders, 7 families, and 12 genera) and 17 Myxomycetes
(5 orders, 7 families, and 14 genera) were found on the logs.
