A substance bonded, taped, or dip-dried onto a solid propellant to restrict the burning surface and to give direction to the burning process.
(chemistry)
A substance which is capable of stopping or retarding a chemical reaction; to be technically useful, it must be effective in low concentration.

Inhibitor

 

a circuit having m + n inputs and a single output, at which a signal can appear only when there are no signals on the m inputs (inhibiting). The other n inputs (principal) form one of the two logic connections, “AND” or “OR.” Inhibitors are used extensively in computers. They are very often understood to be a circuit having a single principal input and a single inhibiting input. A signal appears at the output of such a circuit when a signal is present on the principal input but there is none on the inhibiting input. Such an inhibitor is called an anticoincidence gate; its conventional representation is given in Figure 1.

ETR was considered for inclusion in the regimen in addition to RAL if the genotype indicated low-level or higher resistance to DRV/r, no active NRTIs were available and the ETR MS was <30, particularly if there was no known previous exposure to NNRTIs.
Many of the antiretrovirals in common use have been shown to cause a drug-induced hepatitis, including the PIs lopinavir and darunavir, but the most severe reactions have been reported with the NNRTIs.

Efavirenz catapulted the NNRTI class to first-line therapy along with the PIs; its sponsor, Dupont, boldly compared efavirenz to the gold-standard PI, indinavir, in its pivotal study Dupont 006, which demonstrated that efavirenz was as potent as indinavir while being less toxic and, at once rather than 3 times daily, easier to take as well.
This is also the first time the panel has suggested a combination regimen containing an NNRTI as a preferred first-line treatment option.
