Luton
(lo͞o`tən), borough and unitary authority (1991 pop. 163,209), S central England on the Lea River. Hats, automobiles, ball bearings, and aircraft parts are among the products manufactured. Luton
a city in Great Britain in Bedfordshire, on the Lea River 50 km north of London. Population, 161,200 (1971). Luton is an important center of the automobile industry; the Vaux-hall plant is located there. Other industries include the manufacture of refrigerating equipment and airplane parts. Hats have long been produced in Luton.
