Nera Plateau

a plateau in Magadan Oblast and the Yakut ASSR. Located between the Cherskii Highland in the northeast, the Verkhne Kolyma Upland in the southeast, and the Sarychev Range in the southwest, it measures 130 km long and 50–70 km wide. Its elevations range from 700 to 1,500 m. The plateau is composed of Triassic and Jurassic sandstones, aleurolites, and argillaceous schists; the sand and pebble deposits contain gold placers. Most of the area is covered with sparse larch forests and dwarf stone pine and alder thickets. There are mountain tundras above elevations of 1,100–1,200 m and sparse steppe vegetation on the southern slopes.
