Newsom, Gavin Christopher,

1967– American businessman and politician, b. San Francisco. He was a cofounder (1991) of the PlumpJack Group, whose businesses grew from a wine store to include wineries, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments, before he entered politics. A liberal Democrat, he served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (1997–2004), as mayor of San Francisco (2004–2011), and as lieutenant governor of California (2011–2019) under Jerry BrownBrown, Jerry
