In north-central KY, northeast of Lexington; established Dec 18, 1799 from Bourbon and Mason counties. Name Origin: For Col. George Nicholas (1754-99), officer in the Revolutionary War and first attorney general of KY. He is considered the "Father of the KY Constitution" for his part in drafting it
