Marvel Comics' Nightmare is a shadowy and ghastly figure, often seen riding a demonic horned steed. A supernatural being with an unrevealed origin, he resides within the dimension of dreams in an outlandish, off-kilter realm visually designed by his co-creator, Steve Ditko. Nightmare might be compared to Neil Gaiman's Morpheus (from Sandman), who rules the Dreaming, or to director Wes Craven's Freddy Krueger of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, the killer who invades sleepers' dreams. Debuting in the very first Dr. Strange story in Strange Tales #110 (1963), by writer Stan Lee and artist Ditko, Nightmare draws power from the psychic energies of the subconscious minds of dreaming beings, especially those on Earth, controlling their sleeping and drawing from their life essences. Nightmare can also indefinitely trap a sleeper's soul. In the Marvel Universe, Nightmare has battled Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, the Hulk, Captain America, Excalibur, Deathlok, Thor, and, appropriately, Sleepwalker. He has also tangled with an interdimensional creature called Gulgol, who has the ability to resist Nightmare's spell. Although he has not made any media appearances, Nightmare once starred in his own comics miniseries titled Nightmare (1994–1995). He refuses to slumber, remaining a continuing threat to humanity as long as there are human beings who have nightmares.
What does it mean when you have a nightmare?
Too much indulgence in the things that cause upset to the mind, the body, or the spirit is indicated by nightmares, indicating it is time to cut back, identify problems, and reorganize one’s lifestyle.
If you have nightmares, try to understand the fears and the events in those dreams. They suggest that you may be holding on to traumatic or guilt-based conflicts. You may have a lot of powerful negative feelings that require reconciliation. If nightmares continue for an extended period of time, the individual should consider obtaining professional counseling services. Nightmares are a direct result of overwhelming feelings of fear and helplessness, or a result of an unprocessed traumatic experience. A nightmare is any dream that wakes you up because of its frightening and overwhelming images.
