Nizhniaia Salda

 

a city (since 1938) in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, under the direct jurisdiction of the Verkhniaia Salda city soviet. Located on the Salda River in the Ob’ Basin the city is a station on the Nizhnii Tagil-Alapaevsk railroad line. Population, 21,500 (1970). Nizhniaia Salda was established in 1760 with the construction of a metallurgical plant. The plant was reconstructed during the Soviet period. Building materials and metal products are manufactured in the city.
