Notes field

A text area for the copy editors that precedes each definition in the source text of this encyclopedia. Added to the source files in 1998, codes identify the date the text was altered. The source text is converted into various formats for distribution, but the Notes field is left intact in the Windows version to keep the copy editors from wading through a long definition if only a small amount of text was changed. See About this encyclopedia.
