Novaia Sibir’


one of the Novosibirskie Islands (Yakut ASSR), between the Laptev and East Siberian seas. Area, approximately 6,200 sq km; elevations, to 76 m. Novaia Sibir’ is composed primarily of anthropogenic deposits, which are in many places found on fossil ice. The island has tundra vegetation. Novaia Sibir’ was discovered in 1806 by Russian industrialists.
