Novokubansk

 

a city (until 1966, the settlement of Novokubanskii); center of Novokubansk Raion, Krasnodar Krai, RSFSR. Located on the left bank of the Kuban* River. Railroad station (Kubanskaia) on the Armavir-Kavkazskaia line, 187 km east of Krasnodar. Population, 24,000 (1974). Novokubansk has a sugar refinery, an alcohol and brandy distillery, a building-materials plant, and a food-processing combine, as well as cattle-breeding and feedlot sovkhozes. The Kuban’ Research Institute for the Testing of Tractors and Farm Machinery is in the city.
