Mons Mensae appears on Lacaille's maps as a mesa-like mountain topped with a billowing cloud, which is identified as Nubecula Major ("Large Cloud").
The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds appear on this chart, too (next to the figures for Dorado and Hydrus), but Bayer gave them their 17th-century names of Nubecula Major and Nubecula Minor, respectively.
