This article describes the particular problem of providing a continuously adjustable delay for the STM64 (OC192)-specified clock frequency of 9.95328 CHz and its integer multiples and submultiples to control different electro-optical devices in optical-fiber line-terminal equipment.
Most of these systems deploy SONET, running at speeds up to OC192 (which corresponds to 10 Gbps), and, in heavy cross-sections, use Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM).
Qwest configured its network in an advanced OC192 SONET (synchronous optical network) ring architecture with automatic, instant re-routing in case of disruptions, affording 99.95% network availability, according to the company.
