Later, China [21] proposed a scheme of the relationships among nepomorphan families in which the Ochteridae were treated as relatively the most primitive group based on the possession of ocelli and a respiratory system typical of terrestrial bugs.
A preliminary estimation of the characters of the maxillae, mandible structure, and labial sensilla with respect to their phylogenetic value based on the ground plan was compared with the basic model within the group (i.e., the basal taxa of the Nepidae and Belostomatidae) and with the more diverse forms of these structures in more evolutionarily advanced groups (i.e., Ochteridae, Gelastocoridae, Aphelocheiridae, Naucoridae, Pleidae, Helotrephidae, Notonectidae, Diaprepocoridae, Corixidae, and Micronectidae).

In the part of discussion, the ground plan of the morphological labial sensilla structures and the preliminary estimation of the characters of the labial sensilla in respect to phylogenetic value are compared with the basal model within the group (i.e., the basal taxa of the Nepidae and Belostomatidae) to the more diverse forms of these structures in more evolutionarily advanced groups (i.e., Corixidae, Ochteridae, Gelastocoridae, Aphelocheiridae, Naucoridae, Pleidae, Helotrephidae, and Notonectidae, resp.).
Those studies added 27 species to Cuban fauna, including records for Ochteridae and Hebridae, and ensuring the occurrence of Gelastocoridae.
Presently, the Nepomorpha include thirteen families [13,14]: eleven aquatic families and two littoral families (the Gelastocoridae and Ochteridae).
