The first - and only - piece of land in the Pacific to lie in the path of totality is tiny Oeno Island - part of the Pitcairns British Overseas Territory.
Totality will first be seen over Oeno Island, a British territory in the South Pacific Ocean, at 10:24 local time (17:24 BST).
Unfortunately, no island falls within the umbra's path, though the path's southern limit just grazes the northern shores of Oeno Island (near Pitcairn Island) at 19:48 UT.
Also once a year the islanders go for their annual holiday on Oeno Island. This is a small coral atoll, 120 kilometres of open sea from Pitcairn.
