Official Receiver investigated the bankrupt's estate, these expenditures were brought to light.
The
Official Receiver, part of the Insolvency Service, has been managing British Steel since it entered into compulsory liquidation in May.
He said the
Official Receiver had "oversight" of the work done by the special managers and thought what they were charging was reasonable.
The company was transferred to the
Official Receiver because British Steel, its shareholders and the Government were not able to support the business.

Official Receiver at the Insolvency Service, said: "It is urgent that members of the public with reservations at Charnwood Lodge contact my office to receive information regarding their booking.
While declaring bankruptcy, one will have to show the court and the
Official Receiver that one's debts far outweigh assets in their name.
The figure was revealed in a series of reports that were written by the
official receiver examining the Carillion businesses currently in liquidation.
A spokesman for the
Official Receiver said: "We have continued to review Carillion's contracts, as well as core divisions of the business, and I can confirm that we have safeguarded a further 1,221 jobs.
The
Official Receiver said yesterday that the jobs covered a variety of roles connected with private and public contracts across the country, as well as back office functions.
Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington told MPs he understood the concern over pay and bonuses and said the
Official Receiver could recover payments if "there is evidence of misconduct".
