Onekotan Island
an island in the northern Kuril Islands, separated from neighboring islands by the Fourth Kuril, Evreinov, and Krenitsyn straits. It has an area of 315 sq km and is 42.5 km long and 11–16.7 km wide. The active Krenitsyn and Nemo volcanoes are on the island, which is covered with swamps, heaths, tall grasses, and alder groves.
