OpenWrt
(OPEN Wireless RouTer) A Linux-based open source operating system for wireless routers, residential gateways and other devices. Developed in 2004 as an upgrade to the Linksys WRT54G wireless router, OpenWrt was ported to other router chipsets and devices such as smartphones. With at least three different Web browser interfaces available to access the software, OpenWrt turns a consumer router into an enterprise router with a huge amount of configuration options. Numerous offshoots have been developed geared to hotspot management, security and community networks. See HyperWRT and DD-WRT.Copyright © 1981-2019 by The Computer Language Company Inc.
