optoelectronic

Devices that use the interaction of light and electricity. For example, an electronic signal is the input to a laser diode, which generates light pulses that are transmitted through an optical fiber. At the receiving end, a photodiode detects the light pulses and converts them into electricity. See integrated optics, electro-optic, laser diode and photodiode.
