Ore, Oystein

(1899–1968) mathematician; born in Oslo, Norway. He emigrated to America (1927) to teach at Yale (1927–68) where he was department chairman (1936–45). Decorated Knight, Order of St. Olav (1947) for Norwegian relief work, he was coeditor of Gesammelte Werke of R. Dedekind, and author of several books on number theory and numerous articles.
