(örəbro͞o`), city (1990 pop. 85,860), capital of Örebro co., S central Sweden, W of Lake Hjälmaren. It is a commercial, industrial, and transportation center. Manufactures include shoes, paper, and processed food. A railroad junction, Örebro has machine-building, paper, and footwear industries. Of architectural interest are a castle, which was built from the 13th through 17th centuries, and the Romanesque-Gothic St. Nicholas Church, which dates from the second half of the 13th century. The museum of the Iän of Örebro, which has primarily archaeological and ethnographic collections, is located in the city.
