In Puppets, the experience is initially inverted, as Ted realizes that he is the beetle, and Ormazd is not using his power to crush him, but nurturing him forth with kindness.
Ted continues to take in the sight of Ormazd and realizes, "He was the whole far side of the world, the edge of the valley, the mountains, the sky, everything.
The most important artifact that Ted wields in the service of Ormazd is Aaron Northrup's tire iron, a remnant from the old Millgate that has been transformed by Ahriman's illusion into a ball of string.
In order for Ted to become the ally to Armaiti and Ormazd who can help defeat Ahriman, he must remember a previous ontological era in which humans and the gods were in contact so he can work harmoniously with technology and see the world poietically.
Much as humans can poietically treat technological beings, humans are treated poietically by Ormazd in the novel.
