Utracki and Kamal suggested that blend systems be divided into three classes by experimental observations: PDB, negative deviation blending (NDB), and PNDB. However, no general statement was made regarding miscibility [25].
Many researchers (26-29) discussed miscibility based on the experimental observation in terms of PDB, NDB and PNDB: PDB was observed in the immiscible HDPE/LDPE or HDPE/poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) blend; NDB was reported in the miscible poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA)/poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) (SAN) blend.
The use of Eq 1 makes it possible to distinguish a positive deviating blend (PDB), a negative deviating blend (NDB), and a positive-negative deviating blend (PNDB) with a sigmoidal dependence.
