Palmerston North,

city (1996 pop. 73,095), S North Island, New Zealand. It is a transportation and farm-marketing center with diverse industries. The city's agricultural college, founded in 1926, became Massey Univ. in 1964.

Palmerston North

 

a city on the Manawatu River, in New Zealand, on North Island. Population, 59,800 (1973). A railroad junction, Palmerston North is the commercial center of a stock-raising region. It has metalworking, food-processing, woodworking, and textile industries. Massey University is located in the city.
