Paludology

 

(in Russian, bolotovedenie), the study of swamps, based on the results of geobotanical investigation (vegetation of the swamp cover), soil study (the swamp soilforming process and swamp soils), hydrological investigation (water-exchange of swamps, chemism), and geological study (peat as sedimentary rock). Paludology is significant for the industrial processing of peat and draining of swamps for farming.
