Paraphrenia

 

a mental disorder manifested by systematized delusions of grandeur and persecution, hallucinations, and sensations of powerful external influences. It usually develops in adulthood and has a chronic, long-term course that leads to terminal dementia. Paraphrenia is regarded in modern psychiatry as one of the syndromes of schizophrenia and certain other mental diseases.

There is a thus a consensus from the literature that at least half of the cases have psychiatric disorders [1, 4-6] the commonest diagnosis being dementia but with some cases of alcohol abuse, affective disorders and paraphrenia.
