Patiala

 

a city in northern India, in the state of Punjab. Population, 151,900 (1971). Patiala is situated on the Sirhind irrigation canal. Its industries produce textiles (cotton and silk fabrics), footwear, foodstuffs, and machines (ball bearings and electrical equipment). It also has a university.
