pay TV

A subscription to a television service from a cable, satellite or telephone company. The term excludes Internet-based streaming services such as Netflix, which also charge a monthly fee, though considerably less. Pay TV includes pay-per-view premium content such as a sporting event or newly released movie, which may be delivered on demand or at a scheduled time.
