Peale, Sarah (Miriam)
(1800–85) painter; born in Philadelphia (daughter of James Peale). She lived in Philadelphia, moved to Baltimore, Maryland (1831), then to Washington, D.C. (1840–43), and was a portrait painter. She relocated to St. Louis, Missouri (1847–77), returned finally to Philadelphia (1877–85), and painted still-life pictures.The Cambridge Dictionary of American Biography, by John S. Bowman.
