(pik -tor) (Painter) A small inconspicuous constellation in the southern hemisphere alongside Canopus and north of the Large Magellanic Cloud, the brightest stars being the 3rd-magnitude Alpha (α) and the 4th-magnitude Beta (β) (see Beta Pictoris).
