Pilocarpus

 

a genus of plants of the family Rutaceae. The plants are small evergreen trees or shrubs. The leaves are compound and odd-pinnate. The flowers are small, four- or five-parted, and in racemes. The fruit is a capsule. There are about 20 species, distributed in tropical America and in the West Indies. In the USSR, P. pennatifolius is cultivated on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. A low shrub or tree attaining 4 m in height, the species has thick, long, brownish purple racemes. Its leaves and the leaves of some other species of Pilocarpus yield alkaloids, including pilocarpine, which is used medicinally.

Dentre os exemplos de alelopatia interespecifica citados na literatura, destaca-se o extrato volatil de oleo de jaborandi (Pilocarpus microphyllus), o qual estimulou o crescimento de radiculas e nao inibiu a germinacao de sementes de alface (ALVES et al., 2004), demonstrando efeito alelopatico benefico.
De estas, cinco son endemicas de Selva Atlantica: Banara parviflora (Flacourtiaceae), Cestrum euanthes (Solanaceae), Styrax leprosus (Styracaceae), Albizia edwallii (Leguminosae) y Pilocarpus pennatifolius (Rutaceae).
(2002), trabalhando com jaborandi (Pilocarpus microphyllus Stapf), verificaram que a combinacao de cinetina e zeatina foi mais eficiente na proliferacao de brotos a partir de segmento nodal, apresentando 1,0 broto por explante, com tamanho medio de 1,3mm, enquanto que, a partir de segmento apical, obteve-se, em media 3,0, brotos por explante, com 7,2mm de comprimento, utilizando esses mesmos reguladores.
