main campus at Pittsburgh; private with some state support; coeducational; chartered and opened as an academy 1787, called Western Univ. of Pennsylvania 1819–1908. It operates campuses at Johnstown (1927), Greensburg (1963), Bradford (1963), and Titusville (1963) as well. There are centers for social and urban research and for international studies, and it has a noted medical center.

Washington, Feb 1 (ANI): A new study-conducted by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Illinois, Rice University, and Ohio State University-shows that one year of moderate physical exercise can increase the size of the brain's hippocampus in older adults, leading to an improvement in spatial memory.
