polysiloxane

[¦päl·i·si′läk‚sān]
(organic chemistry)
(R2SiO)n A polymer in which the chain contains alternate silicon and oxygen atoms; in the formula, R can be H or an alkyl or aryl group; commercially, the R is usually CH3(the methylsiloxanes); properties vary with molecular weight, from oils to greases to rubbers to plastics.

In our previous study, (9) we successfully prepared hard, tough, thick polysiloxane coatings by prehydrolysis of methacryloxypropylmethyldimethoxysilane (MPDS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES), followed by moisture curing in the presence of aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS).
To improve the compatibility of the PDMS in the formulation, minimize surface defects and improve incorporation of the defoamer, modification of the PDMS can be performed by replacing the hydrophobic methyl groups with other polar groups to increase the overall hydrophilicity of the polysiloxane. In doing so, the compatibility of the defoamer with the aqueous media will improve, giving the formulator a balance of strong dc..
In this study, a photolithography approach was adopted to fabricate waveguides on PCBs, using photo imageable polysiloxane as a wave-guide material.
