Polystichum acrostichoides (Michaux) Schott [like Acrostichum, leather fern].
Ground flora included members of the Chasmanthium group as well as a rich assemblage of mesophytic plants including Florida maple (Acer barbatum Michx.), cross vine (Bignonia capreolata L.), Christmas fern (Polystichum acrostichoides (Michx.) Shott.) and Canada snakeroot (Sanicula canadensis L.) that were not found elsewhere.
Hence, this project aims to investigate the epiphytic microflora diversity of Polystichum acrostichoides and to demonstrate that like many other plants, ferns show qualitative and quantitative seasonal variation in diversity of their epiphytic communities.
