Porter, Sylvia (Field b. Feldman)

(1913–91) journalist; born in Patchogue, N.Y. Gaining know-how by working at an investment house, she launched her popular financial column in the New York Post in 1935, at first using initials to conceal her gender. She switched to the Daily News in 1978.
