(Potentilla erecta\ a perennial plant of the family Rosaceae. It grows in damp fields and brushwood in the European USSR, the Caucasus, and Western Siberia. Its rhizome is rich in tannins. The tormentil is used medically as an astringent and bactericidal agent. As a medicine, it is administered externally and internally in the form of a decoction. The tormentil yields a dye.
