Rajić, Jovan
Born Nov. 11, 1726, in Sremski Karlovci; died Dec. 11, 1801, in Kovilj. Serbian historian.
Rajić graduated from the Kiev Divinity School in 1756. In 1794–95 he published a detailed description of the history of the South Slavic peoples, which was filled with patriotism and the spirit of the Enlightenment and which strove to awaken a sense of national consciousness. Rajić also wrote literary and theological works and translated several Russian books into Serbian.
