Rama is venerated in Hinduism as one of the earthly incarnations (the seventh avatar) of Vishnu, and in Vishnuism he is the chief object of worship, together with Krishna. Rama is also the name of the sixth avatar of Vishnu, known as Parashurama (“Rama With the Ax”).
