Récamier, Jeanne Françoise Julie Adélaïde
Born Dec. 4, 1777, in Lyon; died May 11, 1849, in Paris. The wife of a Parisian banker, Récamier headed a salon that was a fashionable political and literary center uniting persons opposed to Napoleon I. She was exiled from Paris by Napoleon in 1811 and returned in 1814. In 1819 she took up residence in the convent of Abbaye-aux-Bois, where her salon attracted scientists and political and literary figures, including F. R. Chateaubriand and J. J. Ampère.
