Rectilinear Generatrix

(or rectilinear generator). The rectilinear generatrices of a surface are the infinite system of straight lines (or segments of straight lines) that make up the surface. Such a surface consisting of straight lines is said to be ruled. Surfaces with two sets of rectilinear generatrices are quadric surfaces.
