Redfield Robert

(1897-1958) US social anthropologist, whose studies of Mexican peasant communities led him to formulate influential conceptions of FOLK SOCIETY and the folk-urban continuum (see RURAL-URBAN CONTINUUM). Main works by Redfield are The Folk Culture of Yucatan (1941) and Peasant Society and Culture (1956).
