reheat

A method of thrust augmentation in gas turbine engines. This normally is used on engines fitted on combat aircraft. The surplus or unburned air coming out of the engine is burned by the addition of fuel, which accelerates the gases and provides additional thrust. Engines fitted with a reheat control have a variable propelling nozzle to ensure the correct balance between temperature, pressure, and thrust. Also called afterburning
