Reinette

an apple variety whose somewhat flattened fruit has a tender spicy pulp and a tart taste. Reinettes are divided into classes according to color and size. The apples keep well and may be stored until the next harvest. The trees are high yielding. The apples are used fresh; the Simirenko Reinette may also be used for sousing. Most varieties have lowered winter-hardiness. In the USSR the most common varieties are the Simirenko Reinette, Landsberg Reinette, Champagne Reinette, and Golden Kursk Reinette.
