Reizov, Boris Georgievich

 

Born Oct. 19 (Nov. 1), 1902, in Nakhichevan’-na-Donu. Soviet literary critic. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1969).

Reizov graduated from the Northern Caucasus University at Rostov-on-Don (1926) and became a professor at Leningrad University in 1940. His principal works are devoted to the history of Western European and Russian literature and the theoretical and methodological problems of literary criticism. Reizov has studied the literary process in connection with the social thought of the period, concentrating on its development and historical perspective. He has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Clermont-Ferrand (1973) and has been awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1974).
